Our College Successfully Held the 10th Sino-Japanese Maritime Law Seminar

The tenth Sino-Japanese maritime law seminar’, host by International Maritime Law Research Center of Dalian Maritime University Law Schoolwas grandly held in our meeting room 214 on July 4, 2014. A total of 36 Sino-Japanese representatives participated in the meeting, including academics, lawyers, maritime judges, our teachers and students.

This seminar concerning legal issues about lading and arrest of ship was chaired by the head of the Maritime Law Institute, associate Professor Jiang Yuechuan. Regarding lading termsLiaoning Tandem Law Firm lawyer Zhang Zhiyong and our associate Professor Zhu Zuoxian who were on behalf of China made presentations, supplemented by Professor Han Lixin. On behalf of Japanlawyer Saruyama Kenji lectured ,lawyer Amemiya Are Kai and Well Takashi Box of supplemented. For arrest of ships aspects, our associate Professor Yuan Shaochun and LiaoNing BoNing Law Firm lawyer Wang Wei standing for China made thematic speeches while lawyer Left Hop Fai Line of Waseda University conducted speeches standing for Japan. Delegates had heated discussions on these aspects and reached consensus on some important legal issues. During the meeting, our college held a ceremony that invited lawyer Left Hop Fai Line of Waseda University as visiting Professor and president of Waseda University Haifa College Chu Peiping as visiting fellow.

The feature of this Sino-Japanese maritime law seminar was different from the previous one which has more participation. The seminar not only made discussions incompletely confine to theory and paid more attention to specific approach of justice practice to make good communication and convergence between law theory and judicial practice. The research achievements of this seminar will promote the communication and development of maritime law between Sino-Japanese and East Asia.
